CHARACTER PROFILES:

Mom (Selena):
- Nice.
- Understanding.
- caring.
- Sweet.

Dad (José):
- Nice sometimes.
- Less understanding.
- Also caring.
- Anger problems.

Gabriella:
- Likes to party.
- likes to hang with friends.
- Cool.
- doesn’t really like school but does well in it.


STAGE DIRECTIONS:

takes place in the at the kitchen table, the lights are bright and you can smell the scent of what mom’s cooking and their getting ready to eat dinner, she’s making burritos and Mexican rice and a chocolate chip cookies, their’s 4 chairs, and the puppy (chiwahwah) Chico is under the table.

DIALOGUE:

MOM: yells okay time for dinner.
DAD: mmm it smells good dear.
GABRIELLA: yeah it does im starving mom.
MOM: well good cause I cooked a lot *laughs* so how was your day José?
DAD: it was alrite work was very hectic today it’s nice to be home and have a nice cooked meal for once.
MOM: yeah it is finally I have both of you home for once.
GABRIELLA: hey dad I been thinking and I really want a car.
DAD: gabby I don’t know if I should get you a car im worried you’ll never be home and you’ll stop doing you’re schoolwork.
GABRIELLA: that’s not true dad and you know it, I just wish you would give me more freedom I am 17 now, all my friends have cars and im the only one who doesn’t.
DAD: and that’s why a lot of your friends are failing school and dropping out and getting pregnant.
GABRIELLA: who said im doing that kind of stuff I always do my schoolwork I study all the time, I actually want to have fun and live my life.
DAD: I understand that I just want what’s best for you and I don’t want you to be like your friends, I actually want you to make something out of yourself.
GABRIELLA: I know what this is, you don’t trust me, is it because im not like my sister? , dad im sorry but I can never be like her we’re two different people.
MOM: you two stop it you do this every time we’re having a peaceful dinner hunnie I think you shouldn’t be so hard on her just let her get a car, she does do good in school.
DAD: I understand that im just worried about her.
MOM: José you shouldn’t be so hard are on I mean she’ll be 18 in a few months she’s blossoming into an intelligent young woman and you should trust her more.
GABRIELLA: dad why can’t you be more understanding like mom?
DAD: look gabby if you don’t like my rules here you can leave.
MOM: José don’t say that to her you’re blowing this out of proportion like you always do.
GABRIELLA: fine if you don’t want me here ill leave *leaves the kitchen and opens the door slams it behind her and starts walking*
MOM: José look what you’ve done.
DAD: she’ll be back.
MOM: what if she doesn’t come back? huh ?! *screams*, ive already lost one daughter she barely comes around anymore José do you even care?
DAD: of course I care but theirs nothing I can do.
MOM: actually there is you can change the way you act José or your going to lose all of us, then what will you do?
DAD: well im sorry I care about my daughters so much.
MOM: José nothing is wrong with caring about them its how you act, just try to be more understanding.
*front door opens*
DAD: gabby come in here.
GABRIELLA: yes dad?
DAD: I will get you a car, under one condition.
GABRIELLA: yeah what’s that?
DAD: you don’t go anywhere until you’ve finished your schoolwork, and on school nights you’re in the house by 9 pm and on the weekend you’re in the house by 1 am.
GABRIELLA: okay dad it’s a deal thanks.
MOM: now this is better.
DAD: I hope im not making a mistake.
GABRIELLA: dad your not I promise.
DAD: okay, I trust you.
